Local History: Exhibit Design

Project Gallery

I also work with cultural organizations on public outreach, education, and exhibit design. Below is a project that I completed for a local historical society and museum.

“A House for the Ages” Exhibit

  • Curated a retrospective exhibit on behalf of a historical society in Connecticut
  • Presented a meaningful narrative around themes of craftsmanship, stewardship, community, continuity, & change.
  • Showcased 250 years of history through artifacts, oral histories, & other forms of storytelling, while highlighting ongoing efforts in historic preservation.

Research, Writing, + Design:

Exhibit, Newsletter, Brochure, Commemorative Chapbook

  • Selected archival photos and artifacts for display, including antique building tools, handcrafted joinery, needlepoint, and herbs from the garden to show changing lifestyles from the 1700s to the present.
  • Researched, wrote, and designed exhibit text, brochure, newsletter article, & commemorative chapbook.

Many of my original photographs were incorporated into the commemorative chapbook and other exhibit materials, including these images of the porch, toolshed, and garden sundial.

Educational Guidebook

  • Created a 30-page guidebook for volunteers leading tours of the house & landscape.
  • Provided a compelling and accessible narrative from the 1700s to the present day.
  • Presented local history within a broader context of world events.

Sample Press Release
